We love North Dakota

Yesterday morning, when we were packing up in the city park in Arthur, ND, a young woman came running up looking for a shower. She explained, "I've just been crop dusted." We directed her to Kelly the café owner, who, according to another cyclist met on the road, holds the key to the shower at the racketball court. Then we finished packing up and rode to Kelly's for breakfast. There we encountered the young woman again and introduced ourselves to her. That was Leah, nd the man with her ws her father Bill. We all sat down to breakfst together, and Leah explained about the crop dusting. The small plane had buzzed her repeatedly as she was getting on her bike. Not understanding that the pilot was trying to warn her, she set off and rode right into a toxic mist. She phoned her father, who was driving on toward their lunch stop, and he came back and drove her to Arthur to look for a shower.
During breakfast, Michael broke a tooth on a piece of bacon. Along with a bank deposit (representing my last month's work) gone missing, he was not having a great day. After breakfast, we and Leah and Bill.. went our separate ways, meeting up again once on the road. We rode on to Fargo, and got a room at the Holiday Inn. Michael got three names of dentists from the desk clerk and left messages on their machines. Then we went to bed.
This morning, Michael's phone rang, with Elmwood Family Dentistry offering him an appointment at 8:30. He got coffee and a taxi, while Candice walked around town. While he was in the waiting room, a second office called. Tooth repaired, he taxied back to the motel.
Having reconoitered, Candice brought Michael to the Great Northern Bicycle Company, which did turn out to be Great. They diagnosed a worn out (stretched) chain on Michael's bike. We had both replaced, since Candice's was 80% stretched out. Then we loitered, had lunch, listened to the live music on the front steps, and got ready to leave. But, no, we were not to leave. Who shows up but Leah and her friend Lee, who had flown in to ride with her and was there to buy a bike. So we loitered some more before saying goodbye and taking our loitering back on the stre. ets.

  1. Hey Candice & Michael ~ Glad things are going. Sorry about the tooth. My wife broke a tooth on some restaurant chow on a trip. Local fixed it up good. Keep on peddling!
